Frappe is a Greek foam-covered iced coffee drink accidentally invented in 1957 in Thessaloniki as an improvised experiment by Nestle representative Giannis Dritsas at the International Trade Fair of Thessaloniki. Dritsas showed some children how to create a chocolate beverage by mixing it with water and then shaking it in a shaker. His employee, Dimitris Vakondios, looking for a way to drink instant coffee but unable to find hot water, mixed coffee with cold water and ice cubes… and that’s how Frappe, one of the most popular drinks in Greece was created.
