Prime Minister to meet Vice-President today

The meeting will take place at 1.45 pm at Maximos Mansion and they will discuss the economic and political developments

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will meet Government Vice-President and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos today to discuss the economic and political developments and issues related to the government’s agenda.

The meeting will take place at 1.45 pm at Maximos Mansion.

Mr. Samaras and Mr. Venizelos are expected to talk about the question raised by main opposition party (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras concerning whether international lenders are willing to negotiate and decide on Greek debt sustainability, even though the political landscape in Greece is not clear because of the upcoming elections of the President of Hellenic Republic.

Based on the recent meeting between the Greek government and Troika in Paris and the meeting between Mr. Draghi and Mr. Hardouvelis, the lenders seem to have made a different plan than the government.

They require the full implementation of those agreed and suggest that they will not start any discussion on the sustainability of Greek debt before January. At the same time, they insist on a third memorandum to cover the financial gap for the following years, which contradicts Prime Minister’s announcements regarding the end of Troika’s period.

The government had a different plan, though, according to which Troika’s evaluation will end at October, Greek bank stress tests will be completed by the end of October following the discussion on debt sustainability and reaching an agreement until the end of the year.
