Raising the retirement age

The ministry seems to consider to increase the age limit by one or two years with a transitional period

The Ministry of Labour considers to abolish the early retirement under the new retirement reform for those who have not claim the retirement right.

The ministry seems to consider to increase the age limit by one or two years with a transitional period (by six months each year) for those who have completed the required time of insurance but have not yet reached the age limit to retire.

According to an article published by “TA NEA” newspaper, the insured persons do not loose their right for early retirement, but it is postponed by six months to two years.

As an alternative plan, the ministry also considers to raise the insurance period from 4500 days to 6000 days. Increasing the minimum required insurance period is defined implicitly in the updated medium-term which asks “to increase participation in employment and insurance,” while it helps combating the undeclared work, which is still a major issue.
