Rare 4.8 magnitude quake rattles New York

The epicenter was west of the city of New York, in the state of New Jersey

A rare seismic tremor measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale occurred on Friday morning (5/4) at 10:23 local time (17:23 in Greece) in the vicinity of New York City, in the state of New Jersey, according to the USGS.

The focal depth was only 4.7 kilometers.

There have been no reports of serious damage in New York City.

Authorities sent out a message to mobile phones, but as many are saying on social media, the message was sent with a delay of at least…45 minutes.
