Same job, different wages depending on whether you’re a private or public employee

Public sector employee gets 2,710 euros to do the same job that a private-sector employee does for 586 euros per month

The government may be slashing pensions and income rates, however at least five ministers’ 31 assistants and advisers have been hired on wages worth 2,710 euros per month, reports Greek daily newspaper Eleftheros Tipos. While hundreds of employees in the private sector get paid 586 euros per month (that includes unpaid overtime) to work long hours at a desk, the same job in Greek Parliament is paid for at 4.6 times the amount without the same demands that would be required by the privately employed counterparts.

The State Budget has already foreseen such payments at a time when the economy is crumbling with slashes in every sector except in public-sector desk jobs. Hence, the 31 consultant/assistants of Greek ministers are paid 1.2 mln euros for their services at a time when the government is scrounging for cutbacks everywhere else!
