SETE advises hoteliers to delay signing contracts with “drachma clause”

Memories of 2012 are rekindled

A déjà vu feeling brings back memories of 2012 as a number of major foreign tour operators are asking for drachma clauses to be included in contracts for the 2016 tourism season. Worried about the uncertainty in Greece, a number of operators want clauses to also contain clauses regarding a possible hotel tax hike, insisting that any additional taxes should be covered by hotels.

Kathimerini notes that the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) has advised hoteliers to delay signing contracts until the government comes to an agreement with creditors.
