Shots fired at the Zografou Polytechnic University – One man injured

The man, of Albanian origin, was taken to the hospital

Shots were fired on Tuesday morning in the area of Zografou on Tuesday morning at the campus of the Polytechnic University.

According to reports, a little later an ambulance picked up a 30-year-old man of Albanian origin who has been transferred to the Red Cross hospital.

It all started with an operation by the Athens Security sub-directorate for drugs in the old student residences at Polytechnic University.

For an unknown reason, shots were fired and the 30-year-old was injured.

Police conducted an operation following information that the student dorms were being used for drug trafficking as well as a base for robberies and burglaries in the wider area.

While the operation was in progress, a female police officer felt unwell and decided to leave in her private car. As she was heading towards it, a man attacked her with a screwdriver of Albanian origin, about 30 years old.

To repel the attack, the police officer shot the 30-year-old in the legs with her weapon.

The man was injured and taken to the Red Cross hospital. According to sources, he lived in a student dormitory together with his brother, who was also arrested. The suspect has a criminal record.
