Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, the newly elected president of North Macedonia, continues to challenge Athens by not implementing the Prespa Agreement.
In her recent meeting with Pope Francis, she thanked him on behalf of all “Macedonian” citizens instead of citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia.
This has drawn criticism, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis warning that North Macedonia’s European integration will be blocked if they do not adhere to the agreement.
European People’s Party leader Manfred Weber echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of respecting international agreements.
Siljanovska’s official website also avoids using the constitutional name, further fueling tensions.
