BoG Gov. Stournaras: ‘bank deposits as safe as ever’

ECB decision on collaterals to be lifted upon debt agreement

Bank of Greece (BoG) Gov. Yiannis Stournaras reiterated on Thursday that “bank deposits as safe as ever”, dismissing rumour-mongering aimed at the domestic banking sector.

Stournaras, the one-time finance minister in the previous government, also said that Wednesday evening’s ECB decision on restricting the use of Greek bonds as collateral will be rescinded following a “new agreement”, without citing what type of agreement.
