SYRIZA departs from banking law bill talks

SYRIZA has transformed departures from Parliament talks as a formal strategy, in an attempt to highlight the protest both on parliamentary procedures as well as the substance of bills.

Today, members of the opposition participating in the Committee of Fiscal Affairs departed from the talks on the new institutional framework for banks. According to Euclides Tsakalotos, their bill of law was delivered on Friday evening and there was no time to properly study it through the weekend.

“I hear things from Samaras and Stournaras that speak of how we are becoming a normal country. I do not like this term, because it holds a sense of provincialism”, stated Mr. Tsakalotos and criticized the processes that the government uses in order to legislate.

“The things you do would not go on in a normal country. In said country, in the House of Lords for example, they would dedicate a lot of time on such a bill…”, he said, and added “You have not had the time to study it…it is inexcusable to bring forth said procedures on such technical a matter…the whole process should be moved one week later”.
