SYRIZA proposes amendments to heating fuel

The Coalition of the Left (SYRIZA) wants tax reductions, price decrease, free fuel for vulnerable groups and the possibility for more installments for those who are unable to pay

Main opposition party Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras tabled two amendments in Parliament late on Monday as part of a bill for hydrocarbon exploration in the northern Aegean that is being discussed in Parliament on Wednesday. One of the amendments concerns the reduction of heating fuel prices and the other concerns the provision of free electricity to poor and vulnerable social groups.

In its amendment, SYRIZA calls for the reinstatement of the Special Consumer Tax (EFK) to 2011 levels on account that it is considered a basic need hence should not be subject to VAT. The party called for the Public Power Corporation to restore power to vulnerable groups, allowing such families to a free supply as well as give residential customers the opportunity to pay in 24 interest-free installments.
