CoE: SYRIZA referendum does not comply with intl standards

Greek Referendum in the air?

Associated Press on Tuesday, in an urgent dispatch, said a surprise referendum called by Greek PM Alexis Tsipras on the latest proposal reportedly tabled last week by Greece’s creditors does not comply with international standards.

The plebiscite is scheduled to take place on Sunday, just a week after it was announced.

According to AP, CoE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland said that under international standards a referendum must be called at least two weeks before it is held, giving citizens enough time to weigh the pros and cons of the question posed.

Jagland stressed the fact that question proposed to the citizens was not very clear, while adding that “international observers must also be present”
