The debate on vote of confidence starts today

The first clashes between the parties have already started

The 3-day debate on the vote of confidence initiated by the Greek the government will start today afternoon and will be concluded on Friday.

The first clashes between the parties have already started, triggered by the absence of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on the first day who would be in Milan for the EU summit and government’s choice to appoint Minister of Health Makis Voridis as the first speaker who will express the government’s side.

The main opposition party SYRIZA lashed out at the coalition government due to the appointment of the Minister of Health and spoke of “the government of Voridis”. In the meantime, photos of the minister are posted on the Internet showing him when he was a member of the Greek far-right populist party Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) and EPEN (National Political Union), a far-right political party which was founded in 1984 by jailed former junta leader Georgios Papadopoulos.

However, government spokesperson Sophia Voultepsi said that Prime Minister would travel to Milan to participate in EU summit for employment issues and commented ironically on SYRIZA’s attitude by saying that “We assure SYRIZA that European leaders will first ask the permission of SYRIZA’s spokesman Skourletis for the next EU summit,”.

Ms. Voultepsi also said that Prime Minister will talk at the end of the 3-day debate and will respond harshly to SYRIZA’s statements.
