The first film 11-year-old Martin Scorsese wanted to make

He had sketched on paper his first early storyboards for “Eternal City”

Martin Scorsese seemed to have realized what career he wanted to follow since he was a child, as in 1953 at the age of 11 he had already envisioned his first film, Eternal City, which would be a “Roman epic” as he noted.

Little Martin had sketched on paper his first early storyboards for “Eternal City” which were first published in 2011 on the book of Michael Henry Wilson “Scorsese on Scorsese” and are now published on the Internet, too.

The drawings are surprisingly ornate and very colorful. Some of the images are just establishing shots of landscapes, but most of them are focused on the main characters.

The drawings represent Roman emperors, prisoners and legionnaires while on his last drawing the 11-year-old Martin signed as “Director-Producer”.

The ambitious young director had also chosen the actors who would play on his film and were some of the biggest Hollywood stars at that time, such as Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Virginia Mayo and Alec Guinness.
