Tourists flock to the “escape rooms” in Athens

Amazingly enough, this new adventure game ranks higher than Acropolis on TripAdvisor’s list of the top attractions in Athens

The new craze of the so-called “escape rooms” has arrived to Athens and it is taking the Greek capital by storm.

Amazingly enough, this new adventure game is now the most popular attraction in Athens, ranking higher than Acropolis on TripAdvisor’s list of the top attractions in the capital. In fact, the prestigious travel site recommends this activity to the members of its community, backed by the many positive reviews of past clients.

According to Kathimerini newspaper, this is how the game is played: Five players are locked in a room. Their only mission is to escape from the mysterious space by using all the hidden clues scattered around the room. Riddles, puzzles, keys and a clock counting down, offer tourists and locals an exciting and fun experience.

Although these escape games arrived in Greece just a few months ago, they have quickly gained popularity. The first escape room that opened in Athens is called “AthensClue” and is housed in a 1930s building.

A few months ago, it was number one on TripAdvisor’s list of the top Athens attractions. However, it was replaced by “Adventure Rooms” a similar business that is now ranking higher that Acropolis and the Temple of Hephaestus.
