Two police officers shot in Ferguson (video)

Ferguson, Missouri, notorious after its racial tension following the shooting of unarmed black Michael Brown, aged 18, by a white police officer in August is back in the spotlight

Two police officers were reportedly shot after midnight on Thursday outside the Ferguson Police Department. A protest was taking place outside the police department at the time when shots were fired. Dozens of demonstrators fled after the gun shot with some screaming, “They hit a cop!” Images posted on social media show one officer carried away. A police source states that two police men were injured and taken to a local hospital, however both were expected to survive.

The incident follows a damning report by the U.S. Justice Department on the town’s administration. Ferguson City manager John Shaw, aged 39, was removed form his job on Tuesday. He said that he stepped down from his $120,000-a-year job “with a heavy heart”. this resignation followed Monday’s departure of Judge Ronald Brockmeyer who presided in Ferguson for more than a decade but was forced to step down from his post after being mentioned in the report as using unreasonable force against African American suspects.

The latest resignation was that of police chief Thomas Jackson who agreed to resign after the federal report alleged widespread racial bias in his department.
