Urban redevelopment work in Nafplion uncovers old Venetian walls

The remains will be showcased for visitors to the city, with glass cases and special lighting.

According to an announcement made on Tuesday, urban renewal work on the road surface and pavements along Amalias Street in Nafplion have uncovered the foundations of the old Venetian walls that once surrounded the city.

The city was surrounded by walls under the Turks and Venetians, and in the first years after its liberation until 1867, when they were knocked down to expand the city.

After the remains of the old walls are uncovered they will be showcased for visitors to the city, with glass cases and special lighting set up in cooperation with the archaeological service.
