An airstrike against Al-Qaeda-friendly Al-Shabaab was carried out by the US, in Somalia.

According to sources the goal was to kill one of the organization’s leaders.

“We are in the process of evaluation the results of the operation and we will be providing additional information, as appropriate, according to available data”, stated US Department of Defense spokesman Mark Wright.

The Al-Shabaab group seeks to topple the Western-backed government in Mogadishu and impose a strict version of Islamic law in the country.
