Van Gogh painting sold for 66.3 million USD

At a Sotheby’s auction

Yesterday’s Sotheby’s Impressionist era auction marked an amazing sale. Vincent Van Gogh’s “L’ Allée Des Alyscamps” was sold for 66.3 million USD, while it was expected to reach just 40 million.

The painting was created in 1888 by the Dutch painter, who visited the ancient Roman necropolis in Arles, France, and painted the avenue lined with stone sarcophagi, covered by tall poplar trees bearing autumn colors.

Five collectors fought to acquire this masterpiece, and ultimately, the prize went to an Asian collector.
