Former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis supposedly owes Korean adviser, Glenn Kim, 350,000 euros for his consulting work on Greece. Sunday’s newspaper To Vima stated that the Korean economist who cast himself as an associate of the German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble claimed to have created the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) and the European Stability Mechinism (ESM) while also working towards arranging the Icelandic bank debt.
To Vima states that the Korean was just an ordinary consultant for a Frankfurt-based office, he did not create the EFSF but worked for it five months after it was launched and there was no connection between Kim and the ESM. He did function as a consultant for Iceland but only as far as the removal of capital controls were concerned rather than bank debt. When Varoufakis was removed from the negotiation team, Kim stated that he had been verbally promised 125,000 euros per month but had received nothing apart from per diems, travel and accommodation expenses on visits to various capitals.
Not true to form, Varoufakis has yet to officially respond on the matter. Twitter is abuzz with the hashtag #symvoulos_varoufaki
