Greek Parliament votes in favor of draft bill on media

The Mass Media bill prompted fury in Greek Parliament

A conflict between the government and opposition broke out in Greek Parliament during the discussion of the mass media bill. State minister Nikos Pappas presented the new regulations, while conservative New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis criticised the government of having a problem with independent authorities.

The voting started at around 10 p.m. and the majority of ministers placed themselves in favor of the 35 articles of the legislation. The amendments were put forth in parliament with the first clashes beginning early with Meimarakis telling the government that it has problems with independent authorities. The conservatives submitted the motion for a roll call vote on the legislation.
