The Greek Competition Commission announced it was fining Athenian Brewery SA with the ampount of 31,451,211 euros for abusing its dominant position in the market.
It is the highest ever fine imposed on a single company by the Greek competition watchdog and covers cases of breaching competition rules over a period of 15 years.
The competition authority began an inquiry after a complaint filed by Mythos Brewery against Athenian Brewery. The decision calls Athenian Brewery to end actions of a similar nature and to draft written contracts to avoid any such behavior in the future.
Athenian Brewery’s CEO Zooulis Minas described this decision as ‘unfair’ and unfounded’ and said that the commission did not take into account any of the proofs the company gave.
He stressed that the fine is very high and will affect company’s liquidity adding that the company will recur to court.
