Ex-SYRIZA minister nicks 70K euro lump sum amid …capital controls

Theano Fotiou appears … lucky, as 31,500 retired civil servants are still waiting for a pension lump sum

Theano Fotiou, who served as deputy minister for employment and social solidarity under the seven-month SYRIZA government, received a lump sum of 70,000 euros before leaving her ministerial post and while the capital controls were in effect for the rest of Greek bank account holders.
Specifically, on July 21 2015 an order to issue an insurance grant from the Public Servants’ Providence Fund was signed with a money order worth 69,367 Euros to Fotiou, after her retirement as a professor at the Athens Polytechnic. The former minister was very ‘lucky’ as applications for the issuance of lump sums for public servants were frozen during the specific time, with nearly 31,500 cases pending. The average wait period for clearance is between …2 to 4 years.
