A “difficult” but honest look at the psyche of the creator, through the relation of experiencing trauma and creation, will be the matter of discussion at the beginning of the programme of lectures organized by NEON.
The fact that many artists carry a severe trauma that affects their works, is commonplace in the history of literature and art.
Writer Apostolos Doxiadis and psychoanalyst Nikos Tzavaras will examine the causal relationship between injury and creative work, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novels.
Starting from Sigmund Freud’s essay “Dostoevsky and patricide” they will seek to explore the realities and myths around how trauma can be associated with creative impulse.
The event will take place in the Museum of Cycladic Art, 8 Neophytou Douka Str. , Athens
Date: May 8th, 19:00 to 20:30
