As it was announced by the president’s Herman Van Rompuy office, finally on Monday night the council of Europe approved the further restrictive measures against Russia, which were decided last Friday in the summit and which promotes the “31st of July’s deepening of targeted measures”.
Earlier on, in the Extraordinary meeting of the 28 ambassadors, there were lots of controversy and disputes on the issue of implementing the new sanctions package. Although it did not become known which countries disagreed, the summit took place in order for a solution to be found.
According to report, the “sanctions aim to promote change of Russia’s actions to the eastern Ukraine, followed by the decisions of the European council at the 30th of August, which condemned the increased amount of soldiers of the Russian federation, entering to the eastern Ukraine.
According to the same report the following days these sanctions will be implemented, while is added that “this action will leave time for assessing the implementation of ceasefire agreement as well as the plan for peace.
The report concludes that if needed the “European Union is ready to review part or all sanctions” .
