The construction works for the motorway Ionia Odos, in Messolonghi, western Greece, led to an important archaeological discovery.

The archaeological site of Alikyrnas stretches to many acres and includes an entire ancient city near Aghios Thomas in Messolonghi.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Michael Chryssochoides visited the area and expressed his admiration for this great discovery.

According to reports, the early findings suggest that the ancient city “touches” the route of Ionian Odos. However, the city has not yet been totally revealed and more studies and excavation work will be needed.
