Stunning castles dating back to the Medieval times and the Byzantine period, built by the Francs, the Ottomans, and the Venetians attest to the influence of these cultures to the Greek land and people and form the perfect backdrop for a romantic holiday.

Palamidi Castle in Nafplion
Palamidi is a wonderfully preserved baroque citadel built on the city’s highest point.

The Palace of the Grant Master in Rhodes
The famous “Castello”, is one of the greatest monuments erected in the Middle Ages.

Fortezza is Rethymno’s landmark and its most important monument, built in the late 16th century in order to reinforce the city’s defense.

Frangokastello in Chania
A Venetian castle that lies to the south west coast of Crete island. Built in 1371, this castle is connected to an interesting legend, according to which Greek fighters that died during the Battle of Frangokastello (17 May 1828) appear since as supernatural beings in the area.

Methoni Castle
Built by the Venetians in the early 13th century on a rocky promontory, the castle is among the largest ones in the Mediterranean.

Mystras Castle Peloponnese
In 1989 the ruins, including the fortress, palace, churches, and monasteries, were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ioannina Castle Epirus
The imposing castle of Ioannina was built in 528 AD by the Emperor Justinian. It is the oldest Byzantine fortress in Greece with significant influence over the history of the town which grew around it.
