Homicide seeking clues in murder of author M. Koumandareas (photos + videos)

The police are seeking clues concerning the murder in the author's mobile phone prior to the coroner's report on Monday

Police officers from Homicide are seeking clues to the identity of the murderer of great Greek author Menis Koumandareas. Sources state that the famous author had a visitor at his home late on Friday night. A neighbor’s shocking testimony said: “I heard him yelling, but I couldn’t imagine that he was calling for help.”

The police investigations are looking at people who Mr. Koumandareas knew and sought for companionship. There had been no forced entry and the person who had been with him had selectively looked through his belongings.

The coroner’s report on Monday will also give some insight into the death of the famous author, while lab reports are expected concerning the traces of DNA found in Mr. Koumandareas’ apartment.

The 83-year-old author lived at the 4th floor of 3 Zakynthou Street in Kypseli. He was found dead with wounds to his face. His death took place at 1 a.m. in the morning.

The award-winning author was born in Athens in 1931 and he had been active in the Greek resistance against the military dictatorship from 1967-1974. He was the recipient of the National Writing Award for “The Glass Factory” in 1976 and for “Twice a Greek” in 2002. He had also seen his work featured at the 2001 Frankfurt Book Fair.
