Israeli supermodel Bar Rafaeli’s request to close Israeli air space above her wedding to billionaire businessman Adi Ezra pitted Israel’s Transport Minister Yisrael Katz against the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in a public fued.
The CAA granted privacy to the model and decided to turn air space over the Carmel Forest resort near Haifa into a no-fly zone, but Katz said: “The skies belong to all Israeli citizens and we can’t offer special treatment for this event over other events.”
The CAA ignored Katz and cited safety reasons for closing down air space, but the Transport Ministry had the last word by allowing planes to fly freely above Rafaeli as she walked down the aisle. Reports state that CAA Chief Joel Feldschuh almost lost his job over the incident.
