Ex-FinMin Yanis Varoufakis referred to refugee crisis, while appearing on a a panel on the BBC’s Question Time program.
Asked if the UK should accept more refugees, the duel citizen — Greek and Australian — answered that we were all economic immigrants, and according to anthropologists, we came from Africa.
When reminded that the evolution of humans happened a long time ago, he replied that thousands of refugees entered Greece and Italy and those two countries opened their borders and gave them food, water and temporary shelter.
“To be having this discussion today in Cambridge and to have a moral panic over those poor souls in Calais doesn’t put this country in a good light. I think, from space, borders are absurd.” he added.
Asked if he agrees with an open border policy, he simply answered: “I think, from space, borders are absurd”.
He wasn’t asked if he has the same opinion while sitting pool-side from his spouse’s summer villa on the island of Aegina, or, if he has ever been to space.
