Current President of New Democracy and candidate for the party’s leadership Evangelos Meimarakis met with the three other candidates, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Adonis Georgiadis in an effort to calm down the explosive atmosphere created especially following yesterday’s angry intervention of Evangelos Meimerakis.
Yesterday, Mr. Meimarakis disrupted the meeting of Central Election Commission which was in progress and implicitly accused party’s secretary Andreas Papamimikos and the general director of New Democracy of preparing electoral fraud.
The four candidates released a joint statement following their meeting stating that “In view of the election on November 22, we, the four candidates for New Democracy leadership , met today and we are sending a clear message of unity of the party, transparency of the process and adherence of Association. Our opponent is only Mr. Tsipras, his government and the problems that our country face”.
