The Greek state is forced to pay 150,000 euros to two foreign inmates that fell prey to police hazing in 2006. The case in question involved an Albanian and Kazakhstan national who were ordered by a policeman to punch each other at the Omonia Square precinct while yelling, “I’m a wanker” (Ime malakas).
A Youtube video had emerged a year later, titled “asfalites ksylo se albanous” (police hit Albanians), causing a scandal. Now justice has written the epilogue on the dark page of Greek law enforcement by ordering the state to pay the sum of 70,000 euros to each of the two victims of police brutality plus 6% interest.
The police in question said that he acted in this way to punish and teach a lesson to the men who had snatched an elderly lady’s bag.
