The Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia welcomes the audit report sent by the Swedish Tax Agency (Sw. Skatteverket), in May 2022, vindicating the Holy Metropolis from the false accusations and defamatory publications printed by the Swedish newspaper “Göteborgs Posten”.
The audit report follows a full and detailed audit conducted by the Swedish Tax Agency on the Holy Metropolis’ financial records, the purchase of the Metropolis residence, agreements with contractors and review of the legitimacy of all contractors involved in the restoration of the St. George Cathedral of Stockholm, handling of financial transactions, and review of the Holy Metropolis’ bank accounts, for a period spanning the past three years (2019-2021).
According to the audit report, no issues whatsoever were found and everything was in order. The Swedish Tax Agency, therefore, closed the case with no further action. His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden made the following statement: “The audit report issued to the Holy Metropolis by the Swedish Tax Agency serves as a vindication for the Orthodox Church in Scandinavia, for all those who dedicate themselves to its service, and
for me. This report disproves the false accusations made against the Holy Metropolis by “Göteborgs Posten” and discredits the small group of individuals waging a smear campaign against our local Church over the past months through the recycling and invoking of mostly
anonymous – and in every case – unfounded allegations and fake news. The Hellenic Community is justified and vindicated by the findings. Our local Church in Scandinavia continues its ministry unwaveringly and remains steadfastly united toward the realization of its vision.”
