Two Turkish nationals were arrested on Wednesday night in Thrace after attempting to smuggle dozens of weapons into Greece with the aim of supplying criminal organizations.

The operation followed the proper use of intelligence information, the collection and analysis of which established that a large quantity of weapons was about to be transported via international freight trucks.

As part of the operation, during the night hours of Wednesday, the 1st, two international freight trucks that had entered Greek territory via a border crossing station in the Evros region were located. Surveillance established that the driver of the first truck was acting as a scout, checking the route for any presence of police forces.

During the immobilization and inspection of the second truck, carefully concealed under the cabin bed and behind the driver’s seat, a travel bag and a suitcase were found, inside which 50 pistols and 49 magazines were discovered, vacuum-sealed, and were seized. The truck used for transporting the weapons was also confiscated.

It was also noted that the seized weapons bore no serial numbers (“ghost guns”), similar to other cases handled by the Northern Greece Organized Crime Unit in 2025 and 2026.

A case file was formed against the arrested individuals for participation in a criminal organization and violation of weapons legislation, and they will be brought before the competent prosecuting authority.
