Russian missile hits Cypriot cargo ship (video)

The ship belongs to the shipowner Andreas Hatzigiannis and was hit in the port of Odessa - It was going to load iron ore bound for China

A Russian missile hit the Liberian-flagged cargo ship, KMAX RULER, of Cyprus Sea Lines, owned by Greek-Cypriot shipowner Andreas Hatzigiannis, president of the Cyprus Shipowners’ Union.

The attack took place when the ship entered the port of Odessa with the tragic result of the death of the pilot and the injury of three crew members and a coast guard officer, as announced by a representative of the Ukrainian armed forces.

According to information from the Ukrainian authorities, the ship was hit by a Kh-31P missile launched by a Russian fighter jet.

The pilot’s nationality was not released, while the three injured crew members are Filipinos.

The cargo ship was to load iron ore bound for China, according to Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov, who said that since Russia withdrew from the agreement on grain exports through the Black Sea, there have been 21 Russian attacks on port infrastructure of Ukraine.

The ship was built in 2009, has a length of 230 meters and a width of 37 meters, has a capacity of 91,800 dwt and bears the IMO number 9436642.
