A video that gives away the abbot of the Monastery of Saint Avvakum in the village of Fterikoudi was published by the newspaper Politis in Cyprus as it has recorded the way in which the monks put myrrh on a cross in order to convince the faithful that miracles were being performed.
In the video recorded by the closed circuit television of the monastery of Saint Avvakum, the abbot of the monastery Nektarios and the a monk of the Avvakum monastery are seen preparing the cross, placing the liquid they prepared beforehand.
Watch the video
The video was recorded on the morning of December 29, 2023 with the two monks discussing the preparation of the myrrh.
At one point, the monk holds the container with the prepared cocktail and shakes it to stir the mixture.
As part of the preparation of the cross, Nectarios is heard instructing monk to put enough “myrrh” on the cross until it is full.
According to the complaint that started the revelations about this monastery, “miracles” often occurred with images of weeping and dripping myrrh… leading thousands of gullible people to the monastery to worship and to support it financially, including leaving vows worth thousands of euros.
The myrrh that dripped when the icons were weeping was real and the monks themselves had taken care of this by placing a mechanism to pour myrrh into the icon from a container that was not visible.
The mechanism was discovered but no one wants to talk about the fraud so as not to scandalise the faithful.
“The video is edited to deceive the public,” say the nuns’ lawyers
At the same time, the lawyers of the monks of the Monastery of Saint Avvakum in Cyprus, in a statement, claim that the video, is edited and is an attempt to incriminate the members of the monastic community.
The side of the accused monks claims that the excerpt of the video was leaked by the side of Metropolitan Isaias of Tamassos in an attempt to create an impression, as the six-member Synodal Court met today to deal with the case.
It is also claimed that there are videos from cameras that were placed at the place where the confessions of the faithful were being made.
Meanwhile, serious questions are being raised about the appointment of the President of ELAM (Golden Dawn of Cyprus) as a throne commissioner in the Metropolis of Tamassos.
The President of “ELAM”, who had served as the bodyguard of Nikos Michaloliakos and as the monks complain, was interrogated in his presence, as well as in the presence of the former head of the Cyprus Police K. Michaelides.
In detail the statement
With regard to a video tape published today, Wednesday 13 March, in which the facial image and dialogues of Abbot Nektarios George and Archimandrite Porphyrios Ttooulos appear, it is reportedly known to the public that this video tape is fabricated and does not correspond to reality.
It is the product of illegal editing in order to deceive the public and create a diversionary tactic regarding the blatant responsibilities of the Metropolitan of Tamassos and Orini.

It is even striking that the ‘director’ of this video tape, in order to make it incriminating and incriminating for the above mentioned clergymen, shows one of them giving an order to the other with the phrase ‘put myrrh’ sounding.
As if the person who gave the order wanted this command to be heard not only by the person who received it but also by third parties, the viewers of the video tape.
There was no reason, if such an order was indeed given, to give such an order. The staging is blatant.
The publication of other such ‘staged’ video tapes, the doctoring and leaking of which is a criminal offence, is possibly expected.
Again, the aim will be to deceive the public and create a distraction.
