The appeal of Beleris to declare his detention illegal was rejected by the Constitutional Court of Albania

The possibility of filing an appeal with the European Court of Human Rights is being considered

Newsroom March 21 07:40

The Constitutional Court of Albania rejected, as expected, the appeal of Fredi Beleri seeking to declare his detention illegal, which resulted in him not being sworn in as mayor of Himara, a move that shows that Edi Rama is willing to pursue the maneuver for the usurpation of the Municipality of Himara to the end.

Other appeals pending before the Constitutional Court concern the decision not to grant a permission for his swearing-in, the terms of his detention, which, of course, did not occur as stated throughout the indictment, and the illegal surveillance before his arrest.

It is worth noting that today’s decision of the Constitutional Court is final, and at the same time, a special legal team is considering the possibility of an additional appeal to Strasbourg, to the European Court of Human Rights.

The news of the rejection of Beleri’s appeal comes at a time when there is intense discussion in Athens about the possibility of his inclusion in ND’s European Parliament candidate list.

The prevailing thoughts within the ruling party are that this would be a move that would not only aim to contain leaks to the “right,” but would also provide an indirect response to the blackmail attempted by Rama and the fait accompli he sought to impose.

Beleri’s potential candidacy would require Tirana to issue an order for expedited appeal proceedings so that he can be released before the elections; otherwise, there would be serious implications if he is elected while still remaining a prisoner in Albanian prisons.

However, his release would automatically give him the right to be sworn in as mayor, even if immediately afterward Rama could request his removal.

Supporters of Beleri’s candidacy insist that it would be a practical move to support the Northern Epirotic Hellenism, and Beleri himself would be able to promote issues concerning the expatriates and their rights in Albania, as well as the Rule of Law in the neighboring country, from the European Parliament.
