The express weather is already hitting the country, with heavy rainfall occurring in Thessaly, while storms and hailstorms hit Magnesia. However, according to information so far, the bad weather does not seem to have caused any serious problems.

The fire brigade did not receive any calls for water pumping.

In the region of Magnesia the phenomenon hit South Pelion heavily overnight flooding streets and alleys in Zagora, Milies but without creating any serious problems. In the city of Volos there were electricity supply problems during the night but they were soon restored.

A couple of Israelis in Limionas in the municipality of Zagora, who were staying in an Airbnb apartment, asked for assistance as they were frightened by an adjacent torrent that swelled. A fire brigade team immediately arrived on the scene and transported them safely to Tsagarada.

With the first light of day, the state mechanism that was on duty overnight is investigating whether there are landslides in the mountain network, especially in Pelion, which received several millimeters of rain.

However, a strong storm also hit the islands of the northern Sporades, Skiathos and Skopelos.

The weather today

The phenomena today until midday will be particularly intense and will be more dangerous in the following areas: Thessaly (mainly east), Sporades, southern Pieria, northern Evia, northern Evia, Fthiotida prefecture (in the north), eastern Aegean islands (mainly Chios and Lesvos).

The National Weather Service (EMY) has upgraded the extreme weather forecast to a dangerous weather phenomena and as it says, the barometric low accompanied by fronts and already causing deterioration of the weather in most of the country has passed to the northern Aegean Sea, where it is expected to temporarily deepen and continue to affect mainly the eastern parts of the country with heavy rains and thunderstorms until noon today (20-04-24), when it will move eastwards fuller. Local hail is expected to occur mainly in the eastern Aegean Sea.

Winds will be stronger and will reach 7 and locally 8 Beaufort.
