According to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), early Sunday morning in the Gulf of Aden, the frigate protected a merchant ship. Utilizing both its anti-drone system and its guns, the frigate engaged four Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Two drones were shot down, and the other two were cleared, by the current Rules of Engagement.
The frigate continues its mission without interruption.
Dendias and Borrell Visit Frigate Psara in Djibouti
Meanwhile, the “Psara” frigate was visited yesterday in the port of Djibouti by Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell. They were briefed by the frigate’s commander about the mission.


Addressing the crew, Dendias expressed gratitude and recognition on behalf of Greek society for their service, emphasizing the importance of the European fleet’s efforts to defend access to European ports and ensure freedom of navigation. He highlighted the dangers involved and the significance of the mission for Greek and European citizens. Dendias underscored the severe impact on markets, inflation, and employment if freedom of navigation is disrupted.

Dendias concluded by expressing pride and gratitude from the Greek society, government, and people, wishing the crew a safe return to Salamis.
The Minister of National Defense presented the frigate’s commander with the historic flag of Psara, symbolizing hope, faith, and strength. The flag, gifted by the mayor of the island, features an anchor, a cross, and a spear, along with a snake and an owl symbolizing wisdom and the struggle for freedom.
Additionally, Dendias and Borrell met with the Dutch commander of the operation, Admiral Gryparis, and the president of the Greek community in Djibouti, Mario Armenakis. They were accompanied by Chief of Defense Forces General Dimitrios Houpis and Chief of General Defense Forces Vice-Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras.
