Returning to Belgrade with a bronze medal, Serbia celebrates its third Olympic medal, following two silver finishes in Atlanta (1996) and Rio de Janeiro (2016).
Despite the semifinal loss to the USA after a commanding lead against LeBron James’ team, Serbia, the recent World Cup silver medalists (2023), displayed their dominance over World Champions Germany in the bronze medal match at “Bercy,” clinching a 93-83 victory. Named the MVP with 19 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, and a performance index rating of 36, Nikola Jokić led Serbia to a sweet redemption for their World Cup final defeat in Manila last September.
The Serbian team denied Dennis Schröder, Franz, and Moritz Wagner their first Olympic medal, which would have been a historic achievement for Germany’s men’s basketball team in their seven Olympic appearances. With this triumph, Serbia now boasts three Olympic medals in just five appearances.
