Top event planners in New York are in full swing, as next Saturday’s wedding, starring high-profile figures, has become the talk of the town.
After a small, intimate wedding with 26 guests in the Embiricos family’s ancestral homeland of Andros, George Embiricos and Jaclyn Vernet will celebrate their union in New York’s largest park.
This time, the wedding will be open to jet-setters, shipping magnates, and celebrities from both Europe and the U.S. On September 14th, limousines will arrive one after another, under the tightest security due to the high-profile attendees.
The Groom’s Powerful Legacy
The groom’s grandfather, also named George Embiricos, was a shipping aristocrat who worked in the family business and owned one of the most beautiful and expensive apartments on Fifth Avenue, though he split his time between London, Switzerland, and New York.
He was also a renowned art collector, amassing one of the world’s most famous collections, featuring works by Vincent van Gogh, El Greco, Francisco Goya, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, and more. One of the most valuable pieces in his collection, “The Card Players” by Paul Cézanne, was sold for millions to the royal family of Qatar.
His art collection was so significant that when Sotheby’s announced in October 2012 that it would auction 11 pieces from the Embiricos collection, it caused a stir among the world’s top art collectors.
He was also the grandson of the beloved socialite Doda Voridis-Goulandris, a woman who adored Picasso, had an exquisite haute couture wardrobe and jewelry collection, owned a private island, and lived a life that could easily be turned into a movie, rivaling the likes of Barbara Woolworth Hutton.
George fondly remembers her, saying, “Yiayia Doda was the warmest and most generous person I’ve ever known. She was always welcoming and loved bringing the family together. She also had a uniquely fun sense of humor.”
The Couple
George Embiricos, the younger, is a psychotherapist with his own private clinic in New York, where he resides. Jaclyn Vernet is a successful interior designer with many professional accolades. Their meeting was fated. George describes their first encounter with enthusiasm: “I live in a block of three buildings with classic New York brownstones. Jaclyn’s best friend lives on the second floor, right below me. When he got engaged in late 2021, I went down with a bottle of wine to congratulate them. When my neighbor opened the door, I saw the most beautiful girl I’d ever laid eyes on—it was Jaclyn.”
From Andros to New York with Central Park and an Open Party
The wedding will surely go down in history as one of New York’s most dazzling events. Jaclyn has kept the designer of her wedding dress a closely guarded secret, but it’s sure to be a topic of conversation, as will the guest list.
The couple has set up wedding registries at Bloomingdales and Zola, and the party for the younger crowd (with all the major names from high society) will be a highlight.
The wedding ceremony will take place in Central Park, between 64th and 65th Street, followed by an after-party event at the rooftop of Dream Midtown Hotel, just 10 minutes away from the iconic park.
