After a prolonged summer that continued into the early days of September, the weather is beginning to gradually change, bringing on autumn.
According to the National Weather Service and weather forecasts, a rainy week is expected with temperatures dropping, reaching up to 4 degrees below normal for the season.
At the same time, autumn rains will return, especially on the Ionian islands and in the central and northern continental regions from Tuesday. The winds in the sea are not expected to create problems for coastal transport, with the direction being mainly west-northwest, reaching 3 to 5 Beaufort and locally in the southern seas up to 6 Beaufort.
More specifically, Monday will be generally sunny across the country with a few clouds at times, but occasional localized showers are likely in areas such as the Ionian Sea, the northern mainland, Crete and the eastern Aegean islands. The temperature will reach 24 to 26 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country, while locally in the eastern and southern mainland and the Dodecanese the temperature may reach up to 28 to 29 degrees Celsius.
In Attica the weather will be generally clear, with variable winds at 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the Saronic Gulf western northwestern winds reaching up to 5 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 18 to 28 degrees. Similar conditions will prevail in Thessaloniki, where sunshine is forecast with a few occasional clouds. The winds will be northwest, reaching 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the temperature will range from 15 to 26 degrees.
As we approach Tuesday, clouds with local showers are expected in the west, central and north, which will mainly affect the Ionian Sea, Macedonia, Thessaly and the northwestern Aegean Sea, where thunderstorms will occur. In the rest of the country, few clouds and mild weather are expected, with temperatures remaining at the same levels as in the previous days. Winds will blow in the east from the north and in the west from the south, reaching 5 Beaufort.
This meteorological development heralds a gradual transition to more autumnal conditions, without, however, major disruptions in maritime traffic or sudden changes in temperature.
“After many months of temperature anomalies, the weather is harmonizing with the season,” he notes in a post on his personal Facebook account.
