The Anti-Terrorism Police have arrested a young man in connection with the apartment explosion in Ambelokipi. He is set to appear before the prosecutor this afternoon. Reports indicate that he is connected to the injured woman and was nearby at the time of the blast.
This is about a young man who appears to have a connection to the girl who picked up the keys to the apartment and handed them over to the man who lost his life and the woman who was seriously injured.
The arrested individual will be taken to the prosecutor’s office at noon.
Estimates Regarding the Explosion
According to estimates from Anti-Terrorism officials, a device containing dynamite or gelignite exploded in the apartment. In addition to two weapons, an old detonator was found in the apartment, identical to the one used in the failed attack on the MAT headquarters. Also discovered were duffel bags in sterilized pouches, which are believed to have been used to place the bomb, as a way to avoid leaving biological material that could eventually lead back to them.
Additionally, various colored multi-stranded and single-stranded wires were identified, along with electronic circuit boards, a mobile phone, metal, and spiral sheets likely from a timing mechanism, metal sheets probably from on-off switches, batteries, and fabric.
The initial assessment of the likely target for the would-be bombers is the Israeli embassy, which is located a short distance from the apartment. Evidence is currently being sought regarding the routes taken by the two women in the area. According to the information gathered so far, they appear to have been moving on foot rather than using any form of transportation.
