The severe weather system Bora is expected to impact large parts of the country in the coming hours, with the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) issuing a new emergency weather bulletin on Sunday afternoon.

Significant rainfall amounts have already been recorded in the regions of Halkidiki, Imathia, Pella, Lemnos, and the island of Rhodes. The areas expected to be heavily affected in the coming hours include:
- Eastern mainland and Aegean
- Eastern Thessaly, Pieria, Halkidiki
- Rhodes
- Snowfall will continue in mountainous mainland areas and in parts of Western Macedonia at lower altitudes.
At the same time, the island of Rhodes will remain on high alert throughout the day, as highlighted in statements by the Mayor of Rhodes, Alexandros Koliadis, and the South Aegean Regional Governor, George Hatzimarkos. They issued an urgent plea for residents to stay home for their safety.
Schools Closed Due to Bora – Affected Areas
The severe weather Bora has impacted several regions, leading to the closure of many schools.
Schools in Florina will be closed for two days, Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3, due to heavy snowfall in the area. Additionally, students in Rhodes will remain home on Monday.
Bora Continues to Impact the Country – Where It Will Hit Next, Flood Risks
According to the updated emergency weather bulletin from HNMS:
“The Emergency Bulletin of Hazardous Weather Phenomena issued on 29/11/2024 at 12:00 local time, No. 4, remains in effect as the Bora weather system will continue to bring rain and thunderstorms to many parts of the country. These will be locally severe and persist until the early hours of Tuesday (03-12-24). Meanwhile, very strong and locally gale-force winds will prevail on Sunday but gradually weaken. Snowfall in central and northern mainland areas will be confined to mountainous regions.
More specifically, the following are forecast:
Heavy rain and thunderstorms:
a. In Central Macedonia until Sunday evening (01-12-24).
Notably intense phenomena are expected intermittently in the regions of Halkidiki, Thessaloniki, Pieria, and Imathia.
b. In Thessaly until Monday evening (02-12-24).
Intense phenomena will occur intermittently in Magnesia and Larissa until Sunday evening (01-12-24).
c. In the northern and eastern Aegean islands until Monday morning (02-12-24).
d. In Sporades and Dodecanese intermittently until Tuesday morning (03-12-24).
e. In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace until Sunday evening (01-12-24).
f. In western and southern Peloponnese until Monday midday (02-12-24).
g. In the Cyclades from Monday midday (02-12-24) until the early hours of Tuesday (03-12-24).

Severe Weather Bora – Floods in Rhodes, Lemnos, Central Macedonia – Meteo Forecast
The Bora weather system has been in full swing since Sunday morning, December 1, with significant rainfall recorded in Halkidiki, Imathia, Pella, and Rhodes. High rainfall totals are also being reported in several other areas across the country.
According to the latest forecasts from Meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens for the remainder of Sunday, December 1:
- Rain will continue across most of the country, accompanied by thunderstorms mainly in the eastern mainland and the Aegean.
- Heavy rainfall is expected in Eastern Thessaly, Pieria, Halkidiki, and parts of the Northern and Eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese.
- Thunderstorms will once again affect the island of Rhodes.
The strong northeast winds currently affecting the Northern Aegean, Thermaic Gulf, and parts of Eastern Thessaly and Central Macedonia will weaken by the evening.
Snowfall will persist in mountainous mainland regions and in lower-altitude areas of Western Macedonia.
