The toll so far in the blast, which occurred this morning at a refinery in Tuscany, is two dead and nine injured.
Two of the injured are in serious condition. Four more people are still missing.
Authorities said the fire, caused by the explosion, did not threaten the fuel storage area.
All hospitals in the region have been put on high alert, Tuscany’s regional governor Eugenio Gianni said.
