Crete: The 33-year-old man who lured the 36-year-old woman was examined, released and caused her death

After dragging the 36-year-old woman, the Frenchman walked 4km before being spotted by an off-duty police officer

Newsroom December 19 09:14

The local community of Anopolis Heraklion is still in shock after the gruesome murder that took place at noon on Wednesday (18/12), when a 33-year-old Frenchman set up a carousel and lured a woman to her death.

“Armed” with an Audi RS Quattro, the offender waited patiently for the woman to get out of her car and, before she could even take a few steps, he stepped on the accelerator and crashed into her at speed, launching her into the air.

His murderous fury, however, didn’t stop there. He then, eyewitnesses said, walked over the body of the unfortunate woman and began to curse her vulgarly. The shocking video

“I heard a car pull up and assumed it was my brother-in-law’s. I got out and saw the driver ramming into our unfortunate neighbor. I was in shock. But the shock became even greater when I saw the driver come out of his vehicle, climb on the hood and start to vulgarly swear at the victim in French, “described to protothema.gr Mrs. Gogo Logariastaki, neighbor and eyewitness to the tragic incident.

The woman added that she tried to help the 36-year-old by shouting “”Ria, hold on, an ambulance is coming”.

“He has killed a man”

According to cretalive.gr, the 33-year-old man walked almost 4km until he was spotted and arrested in an incidental manner by an off-duty police officer from the Hersonissos police station.

The police officer, who is a resident of the area, had rushed to the scene to see what had happened as an acquaintance informed him of a “fatal traffic accident”, saying the perpetrator had fled.

He eventually spotted the 33-year-old in the urban fabric of Kokkini with the Frenchman, who realised the officer was looking for him, fleeing to a local supermarket to escape.

There the policeman followed him and immediately asked the employees to close all the doors. “He’s killed a man,” he shouted. But the 33-year-old still managed to escape through a small utility door provided by the store. The suspect got out and managed to “sneak” into the backyard of a residence where he was subdued by the officer and a citizen. The 33-year-old reportedly struggled to avoid arrest, screaming, punching and beating himself in a state of rampage before finally surrendering to the patrol crew that had been notified.

He was tried, remained free, and killed

As for the perpetrator, the investigation revealed that he was a man with a history of domestic violence on his record. A partner of his, who was originally from Bulgaria, had gone to the authorities in the past and had denounced him as dangerous, even expressing fears for her life.

And yet the man remained free. The woman eventually requested and received a prosecutor’s order for a psychiatric examination of the 33-year-old man. Indeed, on December 12, six days ago, in the execution of a prosecutor’s order, he was transferred from the Rethymnon Police Station for a psychiatric examination at the psychiatric clinic of the Rethymnon hospital and it was found that the conditions for his hospitalization were not met.

“He did not seem dangerous”

For his part, the psychiatrist of the Rethymnon Hospital, Antonis Christonakis, who came into contact with the perpetrator before the crime, spoke yesterday Wednesday to neakriti.gr about the man’s condition. As he said, the perpetrator “did not seem dangerous, so he was not hospitalized.”

“He was perfectly calm. His apparent delirium was about no one else but himself and his ‘fake’ father, whom he was looking for. He wasn’t even self-destructive. The testimonies that the police have are not being shared with us, we are looking into “murky waters”. He was not a danger to himself or others, it didn’t look that way anywhere. He was offered treatment, medication and he did not accept it,” Christonakis said.

“There was no indication of today, otherwise we would have kept him in the hospital for hospitalization. I examined him six days ago, I cannot know what happened in that time that led him there. Things are not as they say on TV media,” he added.

The versions of the 36-year-old woman’s murder

Meanwhile, the perpetrator has reportedly made four claims to police about his motive. Initially, he reportedly said the victim was… a man who had sexually abused him in the past. In a second narrative, he claimed the 36-year-old woman was stalking him, while the third scenario was that the girl was stalking his partner.

Finally, according to the Star, the man presented a fourth version, saying he killed his father. Specifically, after his arrest he said: “I want to make a phone call because I had an accident. I killed my father, I ran him over with the car.”
