An alarm was raised on Tuesday (24/12) at the Eiffel Tower due to a fire that started in one of its elevators.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished, but panic ensued as 1,200 people who were at the iconic landmark were forced to evacuate.

According to initial reports, the fire broke out in an elevator shaft between the first and second floors.

Preliminary estimates from the fire department suggest that the fire was caused by a device near an elevator cable overheating.
