Greece is hit by a stormy weather and several mountainous areas are already dressed in white, while the temperature has dropped significantly and strong winds are blowing in the seas.
The bad weather is expected to continue and according to the director of EMY, Thodoris Kolydas, the exacerbation of the phenomena will be in two “flares”.
However, heading into the New Year there are indications of fair weather across the country.

“Winter weather in our country will continue in the coming days, with rain, sea and coastal storms, locally gusty northeast winds in the Aegean Sea and snowfall in the mountains and occasionally in semi-mountainous areas in the central and northern regions.

Thursday, December 26
In the eastern mainland and the Aegean increased clouds with local rain and mainly in the central and southern maritime – coastal parts of the sea – coastal parts sporadic thunderstorms. Rains in eastern Thessaly (Magnesia), the Sporades, Evia, eastern Sterea (Fthiotida and Boeotia), the Cyclades (mainly the western and northern ones) and from midday in Attica and eastern Peloponnese will be locally heavy.
In the western mainland and the Ionian Sea, clouds, partly cloudy with some local rain and possibly in the western Peloponnese isolated thunderstorms.
Snowfall will occur in the continental mountains, the mountains of Evia and Crete and in some places in semi-mountainous areas of central and northern Greece. In the mountains of eastern Macedonia and Thrace snowfall will be heavy.
In the eastern and eastern parts of the region, in the south-eastern part of Macedonia and in the north-eastern part of the region, the weather will be thicker.
Winds will blow north northeast 4 to 6, in the eastern mainland locally 7 and in the northern Aegean 7 to 8, increasing from the morning hours in Thrace, Thrace, the southern parts of Halkidiki, the northeastern Aegean, the Sporades and Evia to 9 Beaufort. In the southeastern Aegean, the winds will be westerly southwestern 3 to 5 Beaufort, up to 6 Beaufort in the morning hours.
The temperature will drop slightly further, mainly in the north. It will reach 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in the northern mainland, while in the northwest (in the interior of Epirus and western Macedonia) it will not exceed 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, in the western mainland and the Ionian Sea 14 to 15 degrees Celsius, in the rest of the mainland 11 to 13 degrees Celsius and in the eastern islands 15 to 16 degrees Celsius.
In the morning and evening hours, frost will occur in some places on the mainland, mainly in the northwest.
Friday, December 27
In Thessaly, the Sporades, eastern Sterea, Euboea and eastern Peloponnese, increasing clouds with local showers and in the Cyclades, Crete and the southernmost parts of the Dodecanese islands sporadic thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, a few clouds, partly cloudy with local showers from the afternoon in Macedonia and Thrace. Snowfall will occur in the continental highlands and from the evening in some parts of the northern part of the country.
Winds will blow north northeast, in the west 4 to 6, in the east 6 to 7 and in the Aegean Sea 8, possibly occasionally 9 Beaufort, gradually weakening from the afternoon hours.
From now onwards, the weather will be mild to mild in the afternoon, with some weakening in the afternoon, and in the evening and afternoon.
The temperature will drop again, mainly in the east and north. In the morning and evening hours, frost will occur in places on the continents, possibly locally strong in the northwestern continents.
Saturday, December 28
In the west, the central, the north, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese clouds, partly cloudy with local rain and mainly in the southernmost maritime and coastal parts isolated thunderstorms. In the rest of the country a few clouds, locally increased with local showers at times in the Cyclades and Crete.
Snowfall will occur in the continental highlands and in places in the central and northern highlands.
Winds will blow north northeast, in the west 4 to 6, in the east 5 to 7 and in the Aegean Sea occasionally 8 Beaufort.
The temperature will not change significantly. In the morning and evening hours in some places on the continents there will be frost, possibly locally strong in the northwestern continents.
