The British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said today that he is confident that Donald Trump, who will be sworn in as US president this month, recognizes that Greenland is part of Denmark’s Baltic territory, although he acknowledged that the US president-elect’s rhetoric could be destabilizing.
“We know from Trump’s first term that the intensity of his rhetoric and the unpredictable nature sometimes of his words can be destabilizing, Lammy told BBC radio, in response to a question about Trump’s intentions to make Greenland part of the United States.
“I suspect, as far as Greenland is concerned, his goal is his concerns about Russia and China in the Arctic, his concerns about national economic stability, Lammy added.
“I’m sure he ultimately recognizes that Greenland is now part of the Kingdom of Denmark, the British foreign secretary concluded.
