Yemen and the UK co-hosted a meeting with representatives from various countries and organizations to discuss international support for the Yemeni government’s “vision for economic recovery and cooperation” and its priorities for 2025-2026.

Following the presentation of Yemen’s unified vision and priorities by Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak, international partners recognized that Yemen’s stability and regional security, including maritime security, can only be achieved through a stable and effective government responsible to the Yemeni people.

International partners recognized the significant economic, and humanitarian challenges facing Yemen and reaffirmed their firm commitment to the Yemeni government for sustainable peace and stability in the country. They welcomed the Government’s continued commitment to restoring national stability, giving priority to the well-being of its people, and its commitment to the principles of, inter alia, democracy, human rights, and social justice. They also acknowledged the Government’s commendable progress in re-establishing government institutions in Aden.

International partners welcomed the Government’s vision and priorities, as well as its approach to economic, financial, and institutional reforms, including the fight against corruption. They expressed their support for the efforts of President Al-Alimi, members of the Presidential Leadership Council, the Prime Minister, and the Cabinet, underlining their full support for the Government’s immediate reform priorities, as well as the long-term vision for economic recovery.

Partners stressed the importance of unity and cohesion of the government, as well as the full exercise of power on the ground, and welcomed the government’s commitment to transparent, participatory, and accountable governance.

International partners pledged to work with Yemen and provide political, financial and technical support to realize the Government’s vision and improve the living conditions of all citizens.

Recognizing that 19.5 million people in Yemen need humanitarian assistance, the partners stressed the need for a balance between humanitarian assistance, development, and peace, promoting a transition to sustainable development.

All agreed that stronger cooperation between the Yemeni government and international partners is essential for a more stable and prosperous Yemen.

Greece’s commitment to support the Yemeni government

The Greek Permanent Representative to the UN reiterated Greece’s firm support for Yemen and its people in a decade-long conflict.

Mr. Sekeris underlined the far-reaching impact of the internal conflict in Yemen, stressing that “the political, economic and social implications are profound and extend to a regional humanitarian crisis of alarming proportions” and highlighted the destabilizing actions of the Houthis, whose continuous attacks on ships in the Red Sea region “have seriously affected freedom of navigation and maritime security”, further intensifying regional instability.

Greece reiterated its political support to the Yemeni government and the Presidential Leadership Council, underlining the importance of unity and sovereignty.

“Greece provides full political support to the Government of Yemen, underlining the importance of unity within the Presidential Leadership Council, to promote security and stability for all citizens, concerning the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen,” it said.

Acknowledging the ongoing efforts of the UN, Sekeris praised the work of the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy Hans Grunberg and stressed the importance of the participation of women and youth in this process as “an essential element of the peace process.”

Greece also pledged practical support for Yemen’s recovery. Referring to international cooperation, Sekeris welcomed the Yemeni Coast Guard Strategy and the UK-led Maritime Security Partnership.

“As a maritime nation, we will continue to play a leading role in promoting respect for maritime security and freedom of navigation,” he said, referring to Greece’s participation in the EU naval operation ASPIDES.

Greece pledged to contribute 100,000 euros to the Technical Assistance Flexible Fund for Yemen (TAFFY), boosting the international effort for the country’s recovery.
